This course will teach students different ways to cope with anxiety and understand how anxiety impacts the brain. The goal is to provide each learner with practical strategies to manage anxiety effectively. Topics: 1. Introduction to Anxiety 2. The Science of Anxiety 3. Cognitive Behavioral Techniques (CBT) 4. Mindfulness and Relaxation Techniques 5. Lifestyle Factors and Anxiety 6. Social Support and Anxiety 6. Professional Help 7. Advanced CBT Techniques 8. Coping with Panic Attacks 9. Building Resilience 10. Managing Anxiety in Specific Situations 11. Integrating Techniques and Long-Term Management 12.Case Studies The class is structured as a continuous 12-week cycle where students can join at any time. Each week covers a specific topic, combining theoretical knowledge with practical strategies and personal reflection. The course restarts after week 12, allowing new students to join at any time. The teaching methods include a mix of lectures, workshops, hands-on practice, group discussions, role-playing, and homework assignments. Each week involves interactive activities to engage learners and facilitate the application of the techniques taught. My teaching style is interactive, supportive, and practical. I focus on creating a safe and inclusive environment where students feel comfortable sharing their experiences and participating in activities. I use a variety of teaching methods to cater to different learning styles and ensure that the material is engaging and applicable to real-life situations. Learners will have multiple opportunities to interact with me each week through various activities: Lectures: Presenting core concepts and theories (interactive with Q&A sessions). Workshops: Hands-on practice of techniques in pairs or small groups (high interaction). Slides and Video Clips: Visual aids to reinforce learning points. Group Discussions: Facilitated discussions to share experiences and insights (high interaction). Case Study: Case study-based activities to practice techniques (high interaction). Q&A Sessions: Opportunities to ask questions and receive personalized feedback. These activities ensure that students have ample interaction with the instructor and peers, fostering a collaborative and supportive learning environment. The intention of the class is not to elicit reports of personal experiences with mental health from learners. If the learner begins to share any personal mental health concerns I will kindly ask the learner to refrain from further discussion in front of the class and to continue the conversation with a trusted adult. If a learner ever shares something that is concerning, I will reach out to parents after class depending on the context of the information

Teacher expertise and credentials
My educational background is in Mental Health Counseling (M.S). As a therapist, I have 8 years of experience working with teens as it pertains to mental health strategies and tools. Additionally, I have completed child development and brain development research and worked as a certified educator. I am immensely passionate about teaching youth about mental health and have completed years of doing so as a therapist and educator. Due to my background and expertise, I will be able to teach this topic from a developmentally appropriate point of view. I have spent years creating age-appropriate mental health content for teens and have a true passion for the field of mental health.
