Rewire the Anxious Brain: Research-Backed Strategies for Teen Experiencing Anxiety


In this engaging flex course, we will explore scientifically proven strategies to understand and manage anxiety effectively. Participants will gain valuable insights into their own anxiety triggers and learn practical tools to rewire their anxious brains. This introductory class covers anxiety, neuroplasticity, and the anxiety cycle.  

This flex course aims to equip teenagers with a fundamental understanding of anxiety, the brain's ability to change (neuroplasticity), and how to recognize and manage the anxiety cycle. It's designed to help teens build resilience and promote emotional well-being.

☀️ What topics will we cover?

Understanding Anxiety: We'll start by demystifying anxiety, discussing what it is and why it happens. 

Brain and Anxiety: Participants will learn about the brain's role in anxiety and how certain brain regions are involved. 

The Anxiety Cycle: 
Identifying Triggers - Stressors and Anxiety-Inducing Situations
The Fight-or-Flight Response
Physical and Emotional Symptoms of Anxiety
The Importance of Early Recognition

Research-Backed Strategies: We'll dive into five evidence-based strategies for managing anxiety. 

Practical Application: Throughout the class, we'll provide practical exercises and real-life examples to help participants apply these strategies immediately.


We will cover the topics mentioned above. Each strategy will be explained, demonstrated, and accompanied by practical exercises.

Review and next steps: learners will receive a brief overview and understand the next steps to learning more about Anxiety and strategies for anxiety. 

I will use a combination of methods, including:

Lecture: Short, informative segments to present key concepts.
Slides: Visual aids to support understanding.
Video Clips: Short clips to illustrate concepts and real-life scenarios.


My teaching style is dynamic and student-centered. I aim to create a supportive and inclusive environment where every participant feels heard and valued. I use relatable examples and encourage active participation to keep the class engaging and relevant.


No prior experience or specific knowledge is required. It's suitable for both those seeking to understand their own anxiety better and those looking for practical tools to manage it. My aim is to make the content accessible and engaging for all participants.

This is a self-paced class will be 20-25 min long video, that will be uploaded on the day of the course at 3pm EST.

The intention of the class is not to elicit reports of personal experiences with mental health from learners. This class will not be taught as therapy or group therapy. If the learner begins to share any personal mental health concerns I will kindly ask the learner to refrain from further discussion in front of the class and to continue the conversation with a trusted adult. If a learner ever shares something that is concerning, I will reach out to parents after class depending on the context of the information Note: Review Outschool's Community Standards before class to ensure that learners remember to keep personal information private.

My educational background is in Mental Health Counseling (M.S). As I therapist, I have 8 years of experience working with teens and youth as it pertains to mental health strategies and tools. Additionally, I have completed child development and brain development research. I am immensely passionate about teaching youth about mental health and have completed years of doing so as a therapist and educator. Due to my background and expertise, I will be able to teach this topic from a developmentally appropriate point of view. I have spent years creating age-appropriate mental health content for teens and have a true passion for the field of mental health.
