Beginner Level
This class is ideal for learners who have an interest in learning about anxiety (feelings of worry) reduction, and how strategies can be used to reduce worries, stress feelings and increase an overall sense of calm. This is an educational, fact-based course, and not a counseling, support or therapy group. I offer 1:1 classes which can be personalized with anxiety education and strategies that relate to current needs. Each lesson will be stand alone. There's no benefit to starting at week #1 lesson since each class is a self-contained experience. Learners can join at anytime, and attend as many or as few lessons as they prefer. The class will cover anxiety reduction and calming topics such as: Lesson 1 Increase good input and decrease bad input (triggers) Lesson 2 Deep breathing with prompts and shapes Lesson3 Art based strategies- Part 1 Lesson 4 Bedtime anxiety strategies- daytime prep, bedtime apps, affirmations Lesson 5 Mindfulness activities- Infinity trace, coloring Lesson 6 Grounding activities-Use of hot/sour, hot/cold water Lesson 7 Distraction activities- games, puzzles Lesson 8 Distraction activities- making gifts, thank you notes, painted rocks Lesson 9 Regulation strategies- infinity walk/trace Lesson 10 Physical object strategies- squeezing items, shredding, fidgets Lesson 11 Anger Mindfulness Regulation- identifying triggers and calm methods Lesson 12 Gratitude Mindfulness Practice- Gratitude Jar, gratitude dice game Lesson 13 Processing strategies- ABC and HALTED Method, Identify love language Lesson 14 Sensory Anxiety strategies- Creating/using comfy corner, Compression clothing, Sensory supportive routines Lesson 15 Distraction activities- learn new hobby, make new recipe Lesson 16 Singing and music activities- creating calming playlist Lesson 17 Pets, Stuffed Animals and Emotional Support Animal strategies Lesson 18 Before and during school / class calm activities Lesson 19 Music Activities (Part 2)- finish the lyrics, music bingo Lesson 20 Social anxiety strategies to use when in groups or with friends Lesson 21 Procrastination anxiety causes and strategies such as ways to increase dopamine/motivation Lesson 22 Performance Anxiety (sports, class presentations, competitions) Lesson 23 World event anxiety strategies Lesson 24 Perfectionist anxiety strategies Because research says students learn better when relaxed, learners will not be called on. Chat box polls will be used to encourage participation. Participation through the chat box is welcomed but never required. I have a structured, yet humor-filled teaching style, designed to keep student's interest, and help learner's feel comfortable. It's important in this type of class especially, to use lots of encouragement and support for individual learner's preference. I'll use slides and gifs to reinforce concepts, as well.
Learning Goals
1. Students will hear a brief overview of what anxiety is, the physiological process and how strategies can interrupt that process
2. Students will learn at least 2-3 strategies
3. Students will learn why the strategies work to reduce worries and anxiety
