What's included
4 live meetings
2 hrs 40 mins in-class hoursAssessment
Informal assessment will take place throughout the lesson by using chat box polls. Due to the nature of this class, there is no required participation, and most interaction (always optional) occurs within the chat box.Class Experience
This class is ideal for learners who have an interest in learning what anxiety is, and what can be done to make it better. Strategies are included that can be used at home and at school. The strategies will be new to learners who have also enrolled in the Ongoing Worry University class for 9-12 year olds. This is an educational, fact-based course, and not a counseling or therapy group. We'll use discussion and polls to encourage, but never require, learner participation. No prior experience is needed, only an interest in understanding worry/anxiety and how to eliminate it. Class One: What is worry/anxiety (feelings and physical response), why we need anxiety, and behaviors we control that increases worry/anxiety response Class Two: Using Art based strategies to increase calm (Food art, Happiness Keeper, Blot Art, Line Art, Comfort Castle, Mountain/Valley drawing or collage) Class Three: Using Mindfulness skills to increase calm, and manage panic moments (Darth Vader breath, Hand breath, Explosion breath, 5-4-3-2-1, Clean/organize space, Paper shred, Body tapping, Clothes Upcycle) Class Four: Using Music based strategies to increase calm (Musician recipe, Vibroacoustic Therapy, Music Scavenger Hunt, Album Cover Design, Song Picture Puzzle, Hapi Drum, Listen and draw)

Other Details
Parental Guidance
This is a fact-based course. I don't anticipate sensitive topics being discussed. In the event a student would bring up a personal anxiety related issue, I will recognize the feeling/comment (i.e. "That can be really difficult") and respond, "That's important information to share with a trusted adult in a private/one-on-one setting. For now, let's talk about...". This has been a successful strategy in previous fact-based courses to address any sensitive topics that may come up. I don't believe parental guidance is required. However, parents know best if their child will more comfortable with them by their side. The fact-based content of this course doesn't require a parent, but the nature/personality of the specific learner may.
