The human nervous system is a system of nerves that begins in the brain and is part of every area of your body – from your fingertips to your eyes, from the skin on your toes to your bones, tendons and ligaments. The nervous system is designed to help humans perceive the world around them and to keep them safe. A simple example of the human nervous system is when your finger or hand gets too close to a heat source and you instinctively pull back. Your brain and nerve endings feel the heat and signal your muscles to retract your hand. In this on going course students will learn about the many part of the nervous system and their function. The nervous system is really complicated, but it can be divided into two really general parts. One is the Central Nervous System (or CNS). The CNS consists of your brain and spinal cord. The brain and spinal cord are inside your skull and vertebrae (the vertebrae make up your backbone). These bones protect the CNS when you get into accident It will be a fun interactive class . Games, songs and books will be used to help the student understand the vast role the nervous system plays in the human body. Each week we will focus on a different part of the nervous system.
