Sight Words: Let’s Get Moving

An active and engaging approach to learning sight words. Students will wiggle and grove to a song for each word, and then have a cool down time to write each word on a whiteboard.

Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 2
Students will master their sight words in a fun and effective class.

Each week the students will learn a fun and interactive song for each sight word, the active song and dance portion of the class will be followed by a focused lesson with Teacher Maggie breaking down each word into its phonetic parts. A straight sight word/drill and kill approach can be detrimental to a student’s later reading success. If a student is only learning to read these words by sight they are learning to guess based on the shape of the word.

Students will interact with the teacher and their classmates by participating in scavenger hunts, and “I have/who has” games. In the classroom students can share videos of themselves preforming their favorite sight word songs. There will be practice pages posted to the classroom for additional practice.
