*Bring white board and marker to class. As students learn to spell each word they are learning so much more than just how to spell that one word. They are learning phonics rules, and tendencies that exist in the English language. They will learn rules, but more importantly the exceptions to those rules. This activity will help a student’s spelling, vocabulary, but also reading fluency and comprehension. With this method student will break words into syllables, and be taught a method for sounding out a word a syllable at a time. With this strategy even intimidating words are manageable. We will discuss the etymology of the parts of the words, and how this can help us remember the spelling and the definition.
