from an absolute beginner to creatively decorating their layered cake. I’ve put together this speedy, 5 day crash course where learners will be presented with everything they need to know to go from an absolute beginner to making a beautiful, decorated, layered cake, using their very own creativity to decorate it! I won’t be fumbling around in my kitchen during the live class, so that my full attention will be on watching each learner and coaching them while they learn these new and exciting techniques. I can only help them so much if they have their camera off. If your learner doesn’t know how to measure ingredients then please either have them measured out before class or assist them off of camera view. Outschool’s policy is that only learners are to be on camera. You’ll find the homework and supply list, for this course, under the “Details” section of the class page description. I'll also send them both, upon enrollment, as a PDF with photos. Please, find the recipes and practice sheets attached to your learner’s welcome message, in their inboxes, from me upon enrollment. You may substitute your own recipes if you like. However, I revolve my course around these two beginner recipes. 🎂✨🧁✨🍰✨🎂✨🧁✨🍰✨🎂✨🧁 We will not be doing all of the work in class. There will be homework to do between classes in order to complete each class. Cake decorating does take prep time, lots of clean up time and practice, so your learner may need some help from an adult. We will be making a very inexpensive icing and chocolate cake that taste great, which has stood the test of time at many celebrations. I will send out the list of ingredients and recipes for the cake which will be attached to your welcome letter, before this course starts. 🎂✨🧁✨🍰✨🎂✨🧁✨🍰✨🎂✨🧁 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: DO I BAKE THE CAKE BEFORE CAMP STARTS? No, do not bake the cake before camp. We will make two 8" inch round cakes, not just one 8" inch round cake. The recipe is for two 8 inch round cake pans not one pan. WHEN DO I RECEIVE THE RECIPE AND WHERE IS IT? The recipe for the cake and the icing will be sent to your inbox, as a PDF file, with a welcome message. CAN I USE TWO 9 INCH PANS RATHER THAN TWO 8 INCH PANS FOR THE RECIPE SENT TO MY INBOX? No, you cannot or you will end up with a very flat, short and none impressive and disappointing looking cake. You cannot substitute a different cake pan size for this recipe unless you increase the cake batter size. ****A recipe for larger cakes will be posted in the class chat.***** DO I NEED TO MAKE THE FROSTING BEFORE THE FIRST CLASS? No, do not make the first batch of icing before the course. 🎂✨🧁✨🍰✨🎂✨🧁✨🍰✨🎂✨🧁 *Class times may vary some depending on the amount of learners. **The listing price you see is not at all what I get to pocket. Learning Goals
In this class each student will learn the proper way to bake a cake for decorating, how to make icing, how to smooth frost a cake, how to pipe borders, leaves and flower and how to write words. They will decorate their own cake on the last day.

4. How to prepare a pastry bag and fill it with the icing
5. How to hold and squeeze the bag properly while piping borders
6. How to pipe 3 different borders

Parental Guidance
FYI..Your student probably will need a lot of assistance to take this course. I've gone ahead and listed this age group though since I'm hearing from parents that some kids are really wanting to learn, enjoy being in the kitchen and are pretty advanced for their age.
However, I know full well that this course is a lot for the younger kids, so please be kind in your feedback. I'm sticking my neck out here to teach this to this younger age group.
I'll do my dead level best to gauge how everyone is doing in class and tailor it the best I can with these young learners in the live class.
They will need help using the oven while baking their cake and getting it out to cool.
They may also need assistance while operating an electric stand or hand mixer if they have never used one before.
They may also need help making the coffee for this cake batter.
***You may also need to assist with measuring out ingredients properly. I will not be covering this aspect in this class.
I will be sending the recipe my chocolate cake with registration. It does call for all purpose flour which does contain gluten. Your student can substitute out another cake or gluten free flour if they would like and also the peppermint flavoring but I promise they won't be disappointed with this cake and frosting.
***The cake and icing don't contain milk, eggs, butter or nuts.
