Zines are self-published magazines full of things the creator is excited about. They often focus on one theme or subject and include writing, doodles, collage, and art. In this workshop, we will look at a handful of types of zines so students can determine the type they want to create. We will then work together to make mini-zines that students can fill with their work. Students will be given creative prompts to continue their work after class is over!
Other Details
Supply List
A handout of creative prompts will be provided for students. During class students will need access to 8.5x11" computer or scrapbook paper, glue, scissors, and any other art supplies they may want to use to create their zines (I suggest old magazines for cutting up and a fun set of markers).
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
I have been creating zines with students, on my own, and with my children for nearly 20 years. I'm a published poet and essayist, including being published in several zines. I enjoy helping students find new ways to self-publish their work and make it accessible for other people to see, as I believe sharing our creativity is important for self-growth and building community! I look forward to creating with students in this class!
