In this one-time class, learners will learn what personification is are and the ways it can improve our writing. Through games and interactive exercises we will practice personification. We will then do collaborative and individual writing to create poems using personification. By the end of class learners will have a better understanding of personification, its purpose in poetry, and will have written two poems. Learners will receive some additional writing prompts at the end of class so they can continue to experiment with writing personification on their own.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello and thank you for taking the time to learn a little bit more about me as an educator! I have been teaching students of all ages from little kiddos to middle school, high school, and adult learners for over 20 years in various capacities. I have a BA in English from Western Washington University, a Master in Teaching from Evergreen State College, and a Master in Transformative Language Arts from Goddard College. I've taught in juvenile detention centers and prisons, in traditional schools, in online programs, at community colleges, in daycares, and even as a homeschooling mom! I've also worked as a director for several different educational programs.
I believe strongly in the transformative power of language and its ability to create change both within us as individuals as well as within our communities and society. I love when I witness a student find just the right words to express how they feel or come alive as they read a poem to a class! In my teaching I encourage students to find their own voices and use those voices to write about what matters most to them. I believe in meeting students where they are at and developing learning from their existing passions. I think everybody has the ability to be a writer, even if they don't know it yet!
I look forward to working with you and engaging in fun and thought-provoking writing assignments!
