Class Experience

This is a follow up violin lesson for learners that have already mastered plucking the D and A strings and using the first finger. In this lesson we will learn the new skill of placing the 2nd and 3rd fingers on the D string (and A string if time permits). Students will learn via watching and listening to the instructor and having personalized guidance on their positioning. We will cover selections from #29 to ~#34 in the String Basics book.

Prior experience needed can be gained by taking 'Violin for Beginners: Holding Your Instrument and Plucking the Strings' and 'Your Second Violin Lesson: Placing the 1st Finger on the Strings' or other lessons/study using the String Basics method book. Students should have a good grasp on #1-27 before signing up for this course.

Materials needed: Violin that is functional and tuned (bow will not be used in this lesson), music stand or other place to hold music, 'String Basics' Book 1 violin method book, pencil, orange highlighter, pink highlighter. A violin shoulder rest that attaches to the violin is highly recommended (a soft cloth or sponge rubber banded to the violin are makeshift options).
