This is a 1-on-one tutoring class design to teach students from zero on the proper instrument technique, posture, sound production and note reading. The material I use is the Suzuki Method Book 1 and the I Can Read Music - Violin book.

Assignments

2-4 hours per week. Students will received detailed and specific assignments to practice during the week on the violin, as well as the specific amount of repetitions for each practice session and ideal duration of each, which will depend on the student's goals.

Assessment

Every week we will be assessing the progress made (or not, and why) during the practice time for each specific item assigned. This assessment is a neutral, non-judgemental evaluation of how the week of individual practicing went and which results did it achieve based on how it was done and which difficulties were faced. Student's progress is extremely individual and depending on many factors such as quantity and quality of practice, student goals and student engagement.

Class Experience

Beginner Level

During this class, we wil hold 1-on-1 sessions of tutoring on the proper aspects of beginner violin playing. We start learning the basic posture to hold the instrument, amd follow on by learning how to produce a good sound and basic tone on open strings. After that, the technique is taught through song from the Suzuki Method, and the first songs are learned by rote memorization and imitation to ensure a solid foundation for posture and sound. At the same time, the student will be introduced to note reading and rhythm reading on the instrument, so that parallel to the playing development, the student will also be learning how to read music on the instrument.

No pre-requisites.

Supply List

This class covers the entirety of the Suzuki Violin Book Volume 1 and the I Can Read Music Volume 1. Students complete the class when they are able to play all the pieces in the Suzuki book with good tone, rhythm and intonation, as well as present good music reading fluency for all the lessons of I Can Read Music.

My experience comes from private music school teaching in both the US and in Brazil, as well as in social projects that I participated in Brazil where I taught violin and viola lessons. I have experience working with children and teenagers, both on private tutoring sessions and in public school environments.
