Homework
1-2 hours per week. Depending on your child's age and how advanced they are, practice should be from 15 minutes (for the precious 4-6 year old beginners) to an hour or more (for the intermediate level students) per day, 5-6 times a week. Policy; Please note that classes will be refunded with 24 hours notice, unless there are extenuating circumstances. If students do not show up for class, I will wait for 10 minutes and then end the class for the day. I always do my best to be reasonable and fair with cancellations, after all, life happens! I am now teaching music full time, so if you do not see a time that works for you, please contact me because I may have other availability other than what is listed on Outschool.Assessment
We progress at your child's pace! Each lesson is individualized and tailored to your child!Class Experience
Beginner - Intermediate Level
Is your child ready to learn the violin, viola, or beginner cello, piano or ukulele? Does he already know how to play, but looking for a new, innovative way to learn? Join this one-on-one class, geared towards your child's prior experience class and style. Sunshine Violin, Viola, Cello, Ukulele and Piano Lessons are designed with your child's personal style, abilities and interest in mind. We will explore many different types of music and perform them as we learn to read music and also play by ear! My passion is to make learning these instruments fun, even the hard parts! During lessons, we play games, sing songs, and have mini-music challenges. This approach motivates students to have a desire to learn and gets them through the times when their motivation is lacking. All lessons are private, one-on-one. Scheduling is flexible. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. If you child is older than the age listed, please contact me and we can still arrange lessons!
Learning Goals
Young musicians will learn to play a variety of music styles including classical, folk, fiddle, popular, and more. I will gear the lessons towards music that your child is interested in playing. Each lesson starts with a finger warm up, then progresses to games, performance, and working on the hard parts. Students learn to read music at their own pace. Young musicians are encouraged in a positive classroom environment throughout the lesson. Ukulele students learn chords, as well as note reading and finger picking. I have a philosophy of teaching students with a positive progressive mindset as we practice and learn.

Supply List
Violin/Viola Students: 1. A violin/bow that fits (I can help, or the music store where you purchase or rent your violin from can help) Please don't buy a cheap one from EBay etc. You will become very frustrated as they do not stay tuned and the sound is very tinny. 2. Shoulder rest 3. Rosin for you bow 4. Method and Music books. At first, you will not need any books, but once I assess your child's learning style, ability and needs, I will let you know of which books to buy. If you have some, we can continue in those until it is necessary to switch. Cello Students: 1 a cello that is your size. I can help or you can google it. I always recommend the beginner instruments from Shar Music or renting one from your local music shop. 2 A rock Stop. These are holders for the pin at the bottom of your cello that stop it from sliding on the floor. Any kind is fine. 3. Finger tapes designed for your cellos’ size. 4 Method books. I will discuss this after our first lesson. Piano: 1. A piano or keyboard 2. Alfred’s Basic Piano Library All In One books. Ukulele: 1. A Soprano or Concert size Uk. I use a Concert size in the classroom. This is the one I use: 2. A tuner 3. Method book: Essential Elements for Ukulele All instruments: A heart that is ready to express the beauty of their instrument.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have taught students from the sweet little 4-6 year olds to fun-loving intermediate level violinists! I have also had the privilege of introducing cello, ukulele and piano to many beginning students. It has been a joy to conduct community youth orchestras, lead violin camps, give private and group lessons and direct school violin and other music programs. I believe in making learning fun, by playing games, moving, and doing challenges. Some of the students I have taught have performed in Carnegie Hall, attended top music conservatories, are professional fiddlers, and continue playing for life to bless their families and churches. I cater to your child's personal learning style and abilities. We progress as your child is ready so that they find a life-long love for their instrument.
