Homework
1-2 hours per week. Students will be encouraged to practice in order to understand the discipline of learning a new instrument. I also will provide age appropriate music theory worksheets and coloring worksheets one occasion you will download and print from home. Besides practicing the songs or pieces we will learn throughout the lessons and camps, the only homework is to finish any music theory worksheets or coloring not fully completed in class that day. Note: All instrumentalists should aim to setting a timer for 30 minutes a day of practicing! Aim for 6 days a week! If your student does not successfully do this, I am not responsible as a teacher for any lack of progress.Class Experience
Before you enroll with me! **Please review the class description and see if your student's experience fits in with what will be being taught. These classes are for anyone but mainly aimed for beginners, but for the violin/viola camper students, I suggest at least a very small amount of experience is needed. There will be NO time to tune the violins or viola before camp class, except for a quick tune. If you do not know how to tune your student's violin or viola, you will need to contact me, preferably enroll in a one on one lesson, or they will not be able to participate in the camp classes. Instruments need to be out of the case, tuned up, shoulder rest on, bow tightened appropriately BEFORE any class begins. Again, if you need help with this, please message me outside of classes. ** **I absolutely will need to see the student to teach them properly, some students like to hide from the camera, and that will not be acceptable in the class because proper learning of the instrument will not be accomplished. I need to see their faces and their hands please!** My teaching style, is I explain the music and the songs, and then I play a demonstration on my instrument. The student or students will then take turns playing the songs. They will have many chances to ask questions or play the songs multiple times. We will continue the songs until they can reach the best of their ability until the class is over. Some students will pick up the songs faster than others, but any exposure to learning an new instrument is a good thing. Most of my students excel pretty quickly! In one on one lessons, we focus more on classical pieces such as Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Suzuki, and Essential Elements, rather than the "fun songs" I pick for my camps. Breakdown for the one on one lessons each week is that, firstly, I need to assess where your student is at, what your musical goals for your student are, and what MY expectations for your student are. Then we will pick appropriate music to work on. Please read all my information before enrolling your student in private lessons. Please understand, I am a fun and kind teacher, but the subject must be taught, and students can really resist practicing. I ask you to think about this commitment to private one on one lessons before you enroll. Many times I hear "virtual lessons do not replace in person lessons" and also "my student is not practicing enough at home, and I can't get them to practice, so we are going to quit." I liken it so a triangle to be successful: The parent, the student, and the teacher. All three sides of the triangle need to be strong to get the most of the classes. If you see foresee these being too much for your student, then maybe consider a different type of class. I take all my classes seriously, but especially my one on one classes. New classes are up and available now, one on one classes starting on January 9th at 5:30pm EST, 2023. Classes (group and one on one) are offered through my availability on Outschool. I suggest once a week for one on one classes minimum, no matter the age. You can book more than once a week if you wish, but I suggest one of my camps if you're going to do that. Also, holidays, illnesses, and going out of town happens on both the student and the teacher's end, so please review Outschool's refund policy if you have any questions about that. I look forward to working with your student! -Ms. Nickie
Learning Goals
The student will be able to do things such as play multiple songs on an instrument, recognize vocabulary, and enjoy the challenges of music.

Supply List
Each of my classes requires hand outs and sheet music that need to be printed from home. The classes will not be effective or fun if there is no sheet music or worksheets for each student to work on. Plan to save everything we do in class so you can review it in the future, either for my class or for another teacher's class! Violinists or Violists will need: An instrument, pick violin or viola. Bow, case, rosin, music stand, and a shoulder rest. You should all of these materials ready before camp or lessons start, even if you are a complete beginner. Sheet music that will need to be printed from home, with a pencil and highlighter. Pianists or Keyboard players will need: And instrument. Sheet music that will need to be printed from home, and a pencil and highlighter. And additional note, (again)*** In the class, on your camera from home, I will need to be able to see the student AND the instrument in the shot in the same time as possible. It is not effective to see just the student, without the instrument, or just the instrument and not the student. I must be able to see to be able to give proper feedback to the student's technique. For bingo and music theory, I just need to be able to see the student's face. Also, in Zoom, please try to select the "Original Sound for Musicians" audio options, or take off the "Noise Suppression" option. This is very important, so that I can hear the voice AND the instrument. Otherwise, I will only be able to hear voices, and this is a music class!
