Class Experience

This class may be taken as either ongoing lessons or as short-term coaching for specific music. Learners will receive individual instruction from a violin/viola/cello teacher with over 25 years of teaching experience. Individual lessons are tailored to each student and their age, level, and learning style and often involve appropriately-leveled scales, technical studies, and repertoire, without losing sight of the fun of making music. I am happy to work with violinists and violists of any level and cellists through Suzuki Book 3 level. I have extensive experience enjoying teaching and parenting neurodivergent children, and I firmly believe music lessons benefit all types of students in many ways. *This class is ongoing for ease of scheduling, classes are listed for four weeks so that Outschool doesn't close the section after the first lesson. Learners may withdraw at any time.*

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Learners should have an adult nearby to assist with the instrument if necessary, especially younger learners and those who are new to the instrument.
Supply List
Working instrument that is in tune (see videos listed below or message me for help)
Bow and rosin
For violin and viola: Something to serve as a shoulder rest. If you don't have an actual shoulder rest, a sponge or cloth with a rubber band may work
For cello: Endpin strap/rock stop/something to keep the cello from slipping. A carpeted surface will work for this.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I'm Ms. Molly, and I teach violin, viola and cello lessons, both classical and fiddle, as well as other musical topics and humanities subjects. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Music and English and (most of) a Master of Arts in Music. I have taught strings for 25 years, both individual and group lessons, in a variety of settings, including private music schools, urban public schools, and in students' homes. I have Suzuki training, and my teaching style incorporates Suzuki principles while remaining flexible to the student's needs. I'm a homeschooling adoptive parent to a 2E child; our family enjoys making music together, reading all kinds of books, rescuing cats, and creating art. I believe that the arts are a fundamental part of education, that learning occurs best in an atmosphere of mutual respect between student and teacher, and that we all learn from one another all the time. I look forward to meeting you!
