Class Experience

Is your child ready to learn the violin/viola/cello and piano? Does he already know how to play a stringed instrument and piano, but looking for a new, innovative way to learn? Join this one-on-one class, geared towards your child's prior experience class and style. Sunshine Violin Lessons are designed with your child's personal style, abilities and interest in mind. We will explore many different types of music and perform them as we learn to read music and also play by ear! We will spend 20 minutes on the piano and 20 minutes on the violin/viola/or cello. My passion is to make learning their instrument fun, even the hard parts! During lessons, we play games, sing songs, and have mini- challenges. We intermingle these fun elements with learning how to hold our instrument, play clear sounding notes, read notes, and then we put it all together to play music! This approach motivates students to have a desire to learn and gets them through the times when their motivation is lacking. All lessons are private, one-on-one. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

A typical class time looks like this:
1. Greeting and relationship building. A child will respond well when they understand that their teacher cares about them!

Violin/Viola/Cello Time! Aprox.18 minutes
1. Tune your instrument. Parents will be needed to help students make sure their instrument is in tune. I will teach you and then you can make sure the instrument is tuned before class so we can optimize our time together.
2. Review bow hold and strokes.
3. Learn scales and play games with the scales.
4. Review music student has been working on, learn how to improve it. If ready, move on to a new song!
5. Play a challenge game related to the song they are learning, or other theory related game.

Piano: Aprox.18 minutes
1. Learn where the keys are on the piano and once that is learned, play scales and play scale games.
2. Review music played last week.
3. Learn new music.
4. Play theory and other fun music games. Many involve movement to help the younger students learn while getting out the wiggles.

Review what we learned that day, make sure you understand what you are practicing this week and say goodbye! See you next week!

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have taught students from the sweet little 4-6 year olds to fun-loving intermediate level violinists! It has been a joy to conduct community youth orchestras, lead violin camps, give private and group lessons and direct school violin programs. I believe in making learning fun, by playing games, moving, and doing challenges. Some of the students I have taught have performed in Carnegie Hall, attended top music conservatories, are professional fiddlers, and continue playing for life to bless their families and churches. I cater to your child's personal learning style and abilities. We progress as your child is ready so that they find a life-long love for their instrument.
