Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
In this class, learners will be introduced to the basic parts of the violin and their names, names of the strings, and a few basic violin care tips. After that we will do some active/physical practicing of some of the motions used playing the violin, including learning about 'up' bow and 'down' bow directions and practicing a variety of rhythm patterns with our voice and body. This class will be active and students will all have a chance to ask and answer questions about the violin.

No violin is needed. For our bow exercises, please have a round marker or highlighter ready to hold as a 'bow substitute'.

After you have taken this class, you'll be ready for lessons, or for my class 'Violin for Beginners: Holding Your Instrument and Plucking the Strings'.

Note: This class is also great for viola players or future viola players. If you play viola or are planning to play viola, and not violin, please let me know in the classroom after you enroll and I'll be sure to include a few things specific to viola, like the different string names.

If you have not yet purchased a violin but plan on doing so soon, you can feel free to message me about advice on what to look for: some cheap and not well made instruments can break easily and make tuning and playing the instrument very difficult and frustrating.

Hello, My name is Mrs. VW.

I teach music and other classes on Outschool.

I have experience teaching orchestra, band, choir and general music in school classrooms and for private groups such as home school and fine arts organizations. I have over 15 years of experience teaching private instrument lessons, mainly string instruments and piano.

Our world is full of beauty and I love helping others tune in to notice, create and share beautiful things.

When I'm not teaching or creating music, I enjoy reading and learning new things!

    Note:
If you are thinking of purchasing a string instrument in preparation for a class, you are welcome to message me about good quality but still affordable recommendations. Buying a too-cheap and poorly made 'violin shaped object' off Amazon or other sellers can result in frustrations with an instrument that breaks, is hard to tune, hard to play etc.
