Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 1
Each week we will read a new story (stories will be shared on the screen for all learners to follow along with me) and a new comprehension skill. This class will be structured as a small group reading lesson. Students do not need to be able to read for this class. The main focus for this class is understanding stories, their purpose, and reading comprehension. Since a different story will be shared each week your child is welcome to join this class again and again :)!

The structure of this class is as follows:

5 minutes- Looking at the title and front cover of the story, making predictions, deciding whether or not the story is fiction/non-fiction, etc.

10-15 minutes- I will read the story, stopping frequently to discuss what is happening in the story and re-visiting our predictions.

10-15 minutes- Focus on reading comprehension (remembering parts of the story while completing a graphic organizer together that coincides with the comprehension skill focus of the week).

5 minutes- Cheers, Sharing/reviewing what was learned about the story, the comprehension skill that was taught and any other closing thoughts about the story.
