Description
Class Experience
Let's write :)! Each class is structured like a mini-Writer's Workshop session. The beauty of Writer's Workshop is that students can write about whatever they want! Students do not need to be fluent writers or spellers for this class. The main focus for this class is for students to brainstorm ideas with others, to transfer their ideas to paper, to write stories, to build stamina with writing, to boost confidence, and to share their writing (stories) with others. *Drawing stories...
The goal for class is to help children find the joy and fun in writing.
I have been an elementary school teacher for over 17 years. The knowledge and skills that I have acquired throughout my teaching career allow me to help young learners sharpen their writing skills. I have been fully trained in the Lucy Calkins Writer's Workshop Curriculum. I have also attended numerous BER (Bureau of Education & Research) trainings focusing on Writer's Workshop and how to teach young learners how to write. As a lead teacher, I have conducted many workshops for new teachers focusing on the Writer's Workshop model. I have also helped to produce many young Writing Festival winners throughout my teaching career.
No homework is required for this class however, children will always be encouraged to keep writing after class is over :)!
3 files available upon enrollmentPaper to write on, pencil, crayons/markers. Writing paper options are attached and may be printed out if needed.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Learner progress will be assessed by teacher observation.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
