Let's write :)! Each class is structured like a mini-Writer's Workshop session. The beauty of Writer's Workshop is that students can write about whatever they want! Students do not need to be fluent writers or spellers for this class. The main focus for this class is for students to brainstorm ideas with others, to transfer their ideas to paper, to write stories, to build stamina with writing, to boost confidence, and to share their writing (stories) with others. *Drawing stories (pictures) counts as "writing" for beginning writers. 10-15 minutes- Shared Writing- In shared writing, the teacher and students compose a story together. I will write a story with brainstorming and the shared ideas from students. 5 minutes- Mini lesson- During this time I will teach a quick writing lesson using the story that we have composed together. This lesson will vary each week and will focus on the skills listed below. 15-20 minutes- Writing- Each learner will write a story of their choosing. The focus of Writer's Workshop is for students to write about whatever their heart desires :). During this time students will be able to talk about what they are writing about and brainstorm/share their ideas with others. Topic ideas will be shared with students who are having trouble coming up with ideas on their own. 10-15 minutes- Share Time- Each child will be given the opportunity to share their story with the group (but are not required to). This class will be different EVERY time, so you are welcome to join this class as many times as you'd like! The skills may be repeated but the stories that we write together, and the stories that the children write, will be different in each class session :)! * This class will sometimes go a little over the scheduled ending time due to learner discussion. **Sibling Discount available upon request.** Week 1- Story Structure (Beginning, Middle, End) Week 2- Writing a fiction story (using our imagination) Week 3- Details in stories (who, what, when, where, why & how) Week 4- Writing a non-fiction story (using facts and opinions) Week 5- Reading your writing to check for mistakes and details (proofreading/editing) Week 6- Writing a describing story (using verbs and adjectives) Week 7- Writing a letter (how to write a friendly letter) Class Schedules: Monday Classes (5:00 pm MT): Nov. 18- Week 1 Nov. 25- Week 2 Dec. 2- Week 3 Dec. 9- Week 4 Dec. 16- Week 5 Dec. 23- Week 6 Dec. 30- Week 7 Tuesday Classes (8:00 am MT): Oct. 15- Week 1 Oct. 22- Week 2 Oct. 29- Week 3 Nov. 5- Week 4 Nov. 12- Week 5 Nov. 19- Week 6 Nov. 26- Week 7 Tuesday Classes (10:00 am MT): Nov. 5- Week 1 Nov. 12- Week 2 Nov. 19- Week 3 Nov. 26- Week 4 Dec. 3- Week 5 Dec. 10- Week 6 Dec. 17- Week 7 Tuesday Classes (5:00 pm MT): Oct. 29- Week 1 Nov. 5- Week 2 Nov. 12- Week 3 Nov. 19- Week 4 Nov. 26- Week 5 Dec. 3- Week 6 Dec. 10- Week 7 Thursday Classes (3:30 pm MT): Nov. 14- Week 1 Nov. 21- Week 2 Nov. 28- **NO CLASS** (Thanksgiving) Dec. 5- Week 3 Dec. 12- Week 4 Dec. 19- Week 5 Dec. 26- **NO CLASS** Jan. 2- Week 6 Jan. 9- Week 7 Thursday Classes (5:30 pm MT): Oct. 17- Week 1 Oct. 24- Week 2 Oct. 31- **NO CLASS** (Halloween) Nov. 7- Week 3 Nov. 14- Week 4 Nov. 21- Week 5 Nov. 28- **NO CLASS** (Thanksgiving) Dec. 5- Week 6 Dec. 12- Week 7 Friday Classes (8:00 am MT): Oct. 4- Week 1 Oct. 11- **NO CLASS** Oct. 18- Week 2 Oct. 25- Week 3 Nov. 1- Week 4 Nov. 8- Week 5 Nov. 15- Week 6 Nov. 22- Week 7 Friday Classes (4:00 pm MT): *New Section Starting in NOVEMBER* Nov. 15- Week 1 Nov. 22- Week 2 Nov. 29- **NO CLASS** Dec. 6- Week 3 Dec. 13- **NO CLASS** Dec. 20- Week 4 Dec. 27- Week 5 Jan. 3- Week 6 Jan. 10- Week 7 Friday Classes (5:00 pm MT): Nov. 1- Week 1 Nov. 8 -Week 2 Nov. 15- Week 3 Nov. 22- Week 4 Nov. 29- **NO CLASS** Dec. 6- Week 5 Dec. 13- **NO CLASS** Dec. 20- Week 6 Dec. 27- Week 7 Saturday Classes (9:00 am MT): Nov. 16- Week 1 Nov. 23- Week 2 Nov. 30- Week 3 Dec. 7- Week 4 Dec. 14- **NO CLASS** Dec. 21- Week 5 Dec. 28- Week 6 Jan. 4- Week 7 Saturday Classes (9:00 am MT): *New Section Starting in DECEMBER* Dec. 1- Week 1 Dec. 8- Week 2 Dec. 15- Week 3 Dec. 22- Week 4 Dec. 29- Week 5 Jan. 5- Week 6 Jan. 12- Week 7 Sunday Classes (4:00 pm MT): Nov. 3 - Week 1 Nov. 10- Week 2 Nov. 17- Week 3 Nov. 24- Week 4 Dec. 1- Week 5 Dec. 8- Week 6 Dec. 15- Week 7

Teacher expertise and credentials
Nevada Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
I have been an elementary school teacher for over 20 years. The knowledge and skills that I have acquired throughout my teaching career allow me to help young learners sharpen their writing skills. I have been fully trained in the Lucy Calkins Writer's Workshop Curriculum. I have also attended numerous BER (Bureau of Education & Research) trainings focusing on Writer's Workshop and how to teach young learners how to write. As a lead teacher, I have conducted many workshops for new teachers focusing on the Writer's Workshop model. I have also helped to produce many young Writing Festival winners throughout my teaching career.
