This is an ongoing reading comprehension and vocabulary class for students reading at a third grade level. 

Texts will include fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. If you are not sure if this class is right for your learner, please send me a message and I can send you a sample passage.

Students will be encouraged to share their thinking, discuss the passage in detail, learn new vocabulary words, and have fun reading engaging texts. My goal is to make every student feel welcome, comfortable, and excited to read. 

Class Structure:

1. Greetings and Introductions
2. Discuss the focus skill for the week and learning objective
3. Preview vocabulary words from the passage
4. I will model reading from the passage and practicing the focus skill 
5. Students will read sections of the text and practice the focus skill. We will stop after different sections to discuss the text. Students will be reading independently.
6. Multiple choice question practice

Week of Nov 25th - Main idea and key details
Week of Dec 2nd - Elements of a fiction text
Week of Dec 9th - Word and phrase meaning in informational texts
Week of Dec 16th - Author’s point of view 
Week of Dec 23rd - Character Development
Week of Dec 30th - Theme
Week of Jan 6th Evidence from the text (nonfiction)
Week of Jan 13th - Word Meaning (fiction texts)
Week of Jan 20th - Summarizing Fiction
