Description
Class Experience
Let's write poems :)! Join me each week to learn how to write a different kind of poem! Each class session is structured like a mini-Writer's Workshop session. The beauty of Writer's Workshop is that students are able to write about whatever they want! Students do not need to be fluent spellers for this class. The main focus for this class is for students to brainstorm ideas with others, to transfer their ideas to paper, to write poems, to build stamina with writing, to boost confidence,...
The goal for class is to help children find the joy and fun in writing poetry.
I have been an elementary school teacher for over 19 years. The knowledge and skills that I have acquired throughout my teaching career allow me to help young learners sharpen their writing skills. I have been fully trained in the Lucy Calkins Writer's Workshop Curriculum. I have also attended numerous BER (Bureau of Education & Research) trainings focusing on Writer's Workshop and how to teach young learners how to write. As a lead teacher, I have conducted many workshops for new teachers focusing on the Writer's Workshop model. I have also helped to produce many young Writing Festival winners throughout my teaching career.
No homework is required for this class however, children will always be encouraged to keep writing after class is over :)!
Paper to write on, pencil, crayons/markers. Writing paper options will be shared some weeks and may be printed out if needed.
Learner progress will be assessed by teacher observation.
40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
