US Grade 2 - 5
This class is an introduction to notable people who helped shape American history. Each week, we will focus on the biographies of 5 or 6 influential Americans. This class is interactive and not just a lecture. Students will be given the opportunity to ask questions, take notes (in the form of words or pictures), and express their thoughts about each person discussed throughout each lesson. Classes will be taught through discussion with the help of graphic organizers, pictures, videos, and sound clips. At the end of each lesson learners will be given the opportunity to share their knowledge with a fun "check for understanding quiz". They will also be able to share their notes/drawings, what they learned, and what they found interesting about each person discussed. Students only need an interest in history and/or people to enjoy this class. Learners will be encouraged to draw and/or write facts about each person that is being taught about (a handout will be provided for each class session for guidance with this), but this is not required. Different notable people in history will be taught about each week. Teacher expertise and credentials
Nevada Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
I have a BA in elementary education with a minor in history. I taught all subjects in public education for over 20 years, primarily grades K-3. I am of Native American (Cherokee and Creek) and European descent. My roots are grounded in the history of the United States of America, with views from many different perspectives. I love teaching all subjects, but most of all, I love teaching young learners about the world around them. I have a great love for history, nature, and the great outdoors.
I have been blessed throughout my life to have spent a lot of time traveling across the United States, which in turn has helped me to learn a great deal about the many people who helped to shape our nation. My parents were both educators and instilled in me at a young age a love for nature, learning, teaching, and appreciating history. I love sharing these same principles with others!
