Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 1
In this 10 week course, your child will learn to read books using reading strategies and phonics rules. If your child knows how to blend basic cvc words and knows their vowels, this class is the next step. It is part two in my reading series. Your child will learn new phonics rules each week, read leveled readers, and work on writing simple sentences. You can find the breakdown of each week below. My classes are hands-on and engaging. I will be asking the students to read words (based on phonics rules) and writing words, they will be reading and applying reading strategies, and writing sentences using proper sentence structure during each class.
Week 1: Students will work with consonant digraphs (sh, ch, th, ph) and reading leveled readers (level a-b)
Week 2: Silent E rule and reading leveled readers (a-b)
Week 3: Students will work on vowel digraphs (oa, ai) and reading leveled readers (a-b)
Week 4: Students will work on vowel digraphs (ee, ea) and read leveled readers (a-b)
Week 5: Students will work on soft and hard c, soft and hard g and reading leveled readers (b-c)
Week 6: Students will work on R-Controlled vowels and reading leveled readers (B-C)
Week 7: Students will work on 'age' J sound and /ch/ sound in words and read leveled readers (b-c)
Week 8: Students will work with /igh/, /i_e/, /ie/ and reading leveled readers (c-d)
Week 9: Students will work learn aw, au, and all sounds in words
Week 10: Students will work with Y as a vowel and reading leveled readers (d-e)

* I will determine the appropriate leveled readers for the class each week. This is an informal assessment, but I want to make sure kids are reading at their appropriate level.

I teach a variety of different classes geared toward elementary students ages 3 and up. My classes include ELA, Math, Writing, Phonics, Stories, teaching beginner, intermediate and advanced readers, simple to complex sentences, and much more. I love student participation and encourage it in all my class.
I have 16 years of teaching experience. I teach 4th grade ELA in a public school in NYS and have been teaching for 4 years on Outschool. I have a Masters in Elementary Education, Bachelors in History, Associates in Business. I have taught Pre-k, K, and ESL online. I have taught all subjects. Over my 16 years of teaching, I have gone to many different trainings in ELA, math, behavioral and I am trained in Logics by Ortan Gillingham and currently training and using restorative practices.
I believe every child can learn but not all through the same method. Learning needs to be fun and engaging and needs to be a memorable experience for students to truly understand it.
I am a mom to five wonderful kids ages 6-12. They keep me busy and I love being their number one teacher!
