Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 2
In this 10 week course, students will develop higher level reading skills to be great readers. They will learn reading strategies, vocabulary words, sight words, and comprehension skills to help them become better readers. The course outline is below and I will stick directly to this outline, unless I feel the class needs to work on a skill a little longer, then I may adjust it. My classes are very routine and I will teach them in the same format each class (Weekly comprehension topic, reading strategies, vocabulary words for week, sight words for week, read the story (same story all week to help build fluency), and comprehension activity). This class is for students who are reading at least at a level J. We will begin reading at a level J and work are way up to a level M (again this may change depending on the group). Below is my class outline:
Week 1: Read Level J/ Cause and Effect/ Story is, I Broke It by Eddie Evans
Week 2: Read Level J/ Authors Purpose/ Story is, Edison's Inventions by Rus Buyok
Week 3:Read Level K/ Sequence Events/ Story is, Carlos's Family Celebration by Lorena F. Di Bello
Week 4: Read Level K/ Main Idea and Details/ Story is, Earth's Water by Katherine Scraper
Week 5: Reading Level K/ Problem and Solution/ Story is, The Mailman's Hat by Kitty Higgins
Week 6: Reading Level L/ Classifying/ Story is, How Animals Sleep by Kira Freed
Week 7: Reading Level L/ Story Elements/ Story is, The Igloo by David Cockcroft
Week 8: Reading Level L/ Sequence/ Story is, Wonderful Winter by Lacy Finn Forgo

New York Teaching Certificate in English/Language Arts
I teach a variety of different classes geared toward elementary students ages 3 and up. My classes include ELA, Math, Writing, Phonics, Stories, teaching beginner, intermediate and advanced readers, simple to complex sentences, and much more. I love student participation and encourage it in all my class.
I have 16 years of teaching experience. I teach 4th grade ELA in a public school in NYS and have been teaching for 4 years on Outschool. I have a Masters in Elementary Education, Bachelors in History, Associates in Business. I have taught Pre-k, K, and ESL online. I have taught all subjects. Over my 16 years of teaching, I have gone to many different trainings in ELA, math, behavioral and I am trained in Logics by Ortan Gillingham and currently training and using restorative practices.
I believe every child can learn but not all through the same method. Learning needs to be fun and engaging and needs to be a memorable experience for students to truly understand it.
I am a mom to five wonderful kids ages 6-12. They keep me busy and I love being their number one teacher!

Class Expectations
1. Be on time and be prepared. Please read class material section for proper materials.
2. Class will go the full length of the time unless their is a small number of students, then it may be a little shorter (usually only five minutes)
3. I like to engage my students through different activities and discussion, if a student doesn't want to participate that is fine, but I will encourage it.
4. You must turn your camera on at the beginning of class.
