In this 6 week class, students will learn how to advance their writing skills by using topic sentences, details and conclusions while learning to write different genres of writing.

 Week 1
Lesson 1
Basics of Writing
Students will learn the basics of writing. They will review what makes a sentence, what makes a paragraph. Students will practice writing a paragraph.
Lesson 2
Genres of Writing
Students will review the basics of writing. They will go over different genres of writing (narrative, descriptive, persuasive, opinion, and poetry).
 Week 2
Lesson 3
Learning to Write a Narrative
Students will learn what narrative writing is. Students will follow an outline and write a narrative piece. In the template they will learn how to add details and make strong paragraphs.
Lesson 4
Writing a Narrative Part 2
Students will continue to follow the steps to write their own narrative. They will take their outline and turn their paragraphs into a strong writing piece with introduction, body, and conclusion.
 Week 3
Lesson 5
Learning to Describe Something
Students will learn how to describe something in writing. Students will follow an outline and write a description piece. In the template they will learn how to add details and make strong paragraphs
Lesson 6
Describing Something Part 2
Students will continue to work on their descriptive piece. They will continue to follow the template and make strong paragraphs to form a strong descriptive essay.
 Week 4
Lesson 7
Learning to Persuay in Writing
Students will learn to write persuasive writing. Students will follow an outline and write their persuasive piece. In the template they will learn how to add details and make strong paragraphs
Lesson 8
Persuasive Writing Part 2
Students will finish writing using their outline and form strong paragraphs.
 Week 5
Lesson 9
Writing Opinions
Students will learn to write their opinions on a topic. Students will follow an outline and write an opinion piece. In the template they will learn how to add details and make strong paragraphs
Lesson 10
Opinions Part 2
Students will finish their outline and turn their writing into strong paragraph. We will share if time in class.
 Week 6
Lesson 11
Poetry Writing
Students will learn about poetry and how to write poetry. Students will follow a template to write their poems.
Lesson 12
Poetry Part 2
Students will finish writing their poems and share in class.
  • Students will learn how to write using details. Students will learn how to form strong paragraphs. Students will learn different genres of writing.
Students should know how to write a sentence and form basic paragraphs. 
You will need lined paper, pencil, and printer (to print the outline). The outline for the weekly writing will be posted on the classroom page.
