Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 3
If you love reading and science this is the class for you! This is a fun reading class that focuses on a science theme book each week. Each week, we will read a new book that teaches us about a science concept. We will read the same book two time (all week) and focus on fluency, vocabulary, and a comprehension strategy. This class is meant to be fun while working on reading fluency and comprehension. The weeks are outlined below. My classes our very routine. I will begin each class by greeting students and then begin promptly. We will move right in to our story and work on vocabulary words, reading, and comprehension. I encourage student participation. Students will take turns reading each class and I will encourage them to ask and answer questions. This class is geared toward advanced 1st graders and up. Most of our stories will be at a level M or above. If your child is younger and is an advanced reader they may join the class as well. Please reach out to me if you aren't sure. Below is the outline for the 8 weeks.

Week 1: Story is Tornadoes by Keith and Sarah Kortemartin.
Week 2: Story is Why Do Leaves Change Color by Kira Freed
Week 3: Story is Mighty Glaciers by Ned Jenson
Week 4: Story is Beyond the Five Senses by John Rouselle
Week 5: Story is The Force of Nature by Finn Borgo
Week 6: Story is Nature Stinks by Kira Freed
Week 7: Story is Mysterious Mars by Susan Lenox
Week 8: Story is Salt Rocks by Joann Linck

Teacher expertise and credentials
New York Teaching Certificate in English/Language Arts
I teach a variety of different classes geared toward elementary students ages 3 and up. My classes include ELA, Math, Writing, Phonics, Stories, teaching beginner, intermediate and advanced readers, simple to complex sentences, and much more. I love student participation and encourage it in all my class.
I have 16 years of teaching experience. I teach 4th grade ELA in a public school in NYS and have been teaching for 5 years on Outschool. I have a Masters in Elementary Education, Bachelors in History, Associates in Business. I have taught Pre-k, K, and ESL online. I have taught all subjects. Over my 16 years of teaching, I have gone to many different trainings in ELA, math, behavioral and I am trained in Logics by Ortan Gillingham and currently training and using restorative practices.
I believe every child can learn but not all through the same method. Learning needs to be fun and engaging and needs to be a memorable experience for students to truly understand it.
I am a mom to five wonderful kids ages 6-12. They keep me busy and I love being their number one teacher!

Class Expectations
1. Be on time and be prepared. Please read class material section for proper materials.
2. Class will go the full length of the time unless their is a small number of students, then it may be a little shorter (usually only five minutes)
3. I like to engage my students through different activities and discussion, if a student doesn't want to participate that is fine, but I will encourage it.
4. You must turn your camera on at the beginning of class.
