In this class, students will learn how to identify main ideas by identifying/using topics of paragraphs and by analyzing sentences for key words. During the first lesson, they will get practice identifying main ideas in various paragraphs together in class. During the second lesson, they will learn how to identify major details that directly support a main idea. They will learn how to do this by looking for transitions and key words related to/used in the main idea. Finally, they will learn how to differentiate between major and minor details of a paragraph. These three skills are critical reading skills for any reader at any level.
