Informative Essay Writing to Improve Formal Writing Skills

In this three-week class, students will write a three-page informational essay on a topic of their choice. They will use instructor feedback and lessons to write formally. Students will feel more confident in their writing abilities!

2-4 hours per week. Outline, Draft, and Final Draft will be submitted.
Grading
Students will receive written feedback via Google docs for areas that are done well and for areas that need improvement.

Class Experience

US Grade 8 - 10
Intermediate Level
Students will significantly improve their formal writing skills by writing about a topic of their choice and by planning their writing, by learning how to write using formal language, and by enhancing their grammar and mechanics writing skills.

Students will create an outline of their essay that they will use to write their initial draft.

Upon receiving the draft, the teacher will read every word, phrase, sentence, and paragraph to provide high quality feedback that promotes learning, memory, and increased control of writing skills.

Students will then use all feedback to submit a polished, final draft.

3 Lessons

Lesson 1:
Informational Essay Overview and Outline Assignment
 Students will gain an understanding of the essay and will submit an outline.

Lesson 2:
Essay Draft
 Students will use their outline to submit their THREE FULL page draft. 
1 assignment
Lesson 3:
Essay Final Draft
 Students will use instructor feedback to make meaningful changes to their draft.
