Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 9
In this multi-day course, students will explore the following literary devices and elements: symbol, personification, flashback, metaphor, simile, hyperbole, alliteration, analogy, oxymoron, juxtaposition, idiom, euphemism, repetition, rhyme, pun, onomatopoeia, allusion, and more. Students will then analyze a variety of types of poetry and write poems integrating their understanding of the learned literary devices. Some of the poetry styles that we will use are Haiku, Ballads, Sonnets, Limericks, Cinquain, and Clerihew. Students will learn how to use their words to emphasize a point. How to give your words meaning and impact, making them something that others want to read. Poetry forces you to think about word choices, as well as the use of grammar, punctuation structure, layout, and capitalization.

I offer a wide variety of classes to meet a wide range of students' interests, needs, and ages. Check out my course options and choose one today. I promise you will have fun learning!

My teaching philosophy is to do whatever it takes to help your child learn. I like to build on your child’s background knowledge and interests to get them excited about topics. When children are excited about a topic, they learn without even realizing it! Engaging learners make the process fun and exciting and create a foundation for a love of learning.

I look forward to meeting you in one of my courses. See you soon!

Happy Learning,
Dr. Amy R.
