US Grade 2 - 5
This poetry course allows students to explore 4 types of age appropriate poetry and then compose their own poem based on the model we have studied. Children need to understand that poetry is not something to memorize, but rather it is an enjoyable way to share their experiences and feelings with others. It is important for children to analyze how specific words used in poems create images in their minds. Poetry is important for children because it is the first genre they hear through lullabies, nursery rhymes, and songs. Students build confidence by writing structured, formulaic poems while engaging in opportunities that encourage creativity and word play. Poetry types we will learn: Class 1: What is a poem? Acrostic poems Class 2: Cinquan Poems Class 3: Sensory Poem Class 4: Haiku Poem This class is interactive as I encourage students to discuss what they hear and feel as we explore different examples of poetry. Students are encouraged to share their poetry, but it is not a requirement. Sometimes poetry can be a personal experience that isn't meant to be shared with others. I want to honor each students' experience with their creativity. They do not need any prior knowledge about poetry because this is an introductory level course. I will address all types of learning styles by using auditory, visual, and kinesthetic techniques. Every learner in my classroom is important, and I want each learner to feel comfortable. Therefore, if your student has special needs I should take into consideration please feel free to share those with me. I look forward to laughing and creating and learning with your student.

So, glad you stopped by!
I'm Regina and education is my passion. I was a classroom teacher in the public school system for 20 years teaching English, math, earth science, geography, and reading. I have taught students ranging from preschool to adults. Currently, I teach a variety of classes online and work as an instructional designer for my state's Office of Emergency Preparedness. I homeschooled my daughter successfully, and she is currently in college.
I earned my B.A. in English and a Master's of Education. Since that time, I have been a director of a preschool, a classroom teacher, a department chairman for the special education department in my school district, and an online ESL teacher for the last 6 years.
I believe every student deserves the best of me and I am invested in your child's success! Seeing learners have that "light-bulb" moment when they can make a connection to real-life is my reason why. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your child's educational journey.
I am a mom of two beautiful girls and a grandmother to an amazing granddaughter. My oldest daughter is a teacher and my youngest is studying to be a psychologist. Besides teaching, I love the beach and reading. My ultimate goal is to visit all 7 continents. I have made it to four so far! I look forward to seeing everyone in my class soon!
