Ongoing poetry club hosted weekly; based on a weekly word / theme, students are invited to write and share / perform their poetry to a small group of like-minded poets.

Class experience

US Grade 8 - 10
I am a teacher with 16+ years experience in the classroom. I have worked in groups large and small to help students develop their strengths in creative writing and find their love of writing in doing so.
I have been writing poetry myself for over 30 years and have had some poetry published in poetry journals in the 80's and 90's.
Homework Offered
Students will be given a weekly theme or word and asked to create a poem based on this word or theme to share at the weekly gatherings. Their is no set style or approach, students are all asked to share their unique talents and abilities.
0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Grades Offered
Pens, pencils, color pencils, paper, journals....anything the student would like to creatively write their own poetry. Of course, typed work is fine as well. I will not be looking at the work once complete. The students will share aloud to the class.
This class will have themes or words based on colors, natural places (beaches, mountains, rivers), textures (wood, velvet, fur), etc.
I ask that the same respect for words and assignments in an actual classroom be respected in this space. This is to ensure all the students feel safe with the writings of the others in the group and as a safe space to share their own writings without prejudice or fear.
No outside content will be used. This is purely a creative space for the students in this class to make up their own work based on our weekly study focus.
Students may choose to use a thesaurus and / or dictionary for help.
