Explore Alaska geography, themes of survival, culture, and the relationships between humans and the environment through literature. Join this interdisciplinary, active class where we go beyond the book, reading, responding, reflecting, and reaching to the deep and critical thinking. Learning Goals
Writing, speaking, critical thinking on literature around related themes of literature focused on Alaska.
Identify aspects of a text that reveal an author's point of view, stance, or purpose (e.g. rhetorical language, inclusion or avoidance of particular facts, images, visuals, etc.). RH6 - NY

Independent reading, interest in connected content, deep context thinking and a focus on extension activities beyond reading the book

Each participant must have their own copy of the book we are discussing. Projects and responses must be original in nature.

Outside of teaching, Emily is committed to continuous professional development, staying up-to-date with the latest educational tools and teaching methodologies. She also believes in the power of real-world applications of math to inspire students and demonstrate its relevance beyond the classroom. Emily is passionate about helping students build confidence in their abilities so that they can enjoy solving problems on their own! Recently, Emily obtained a teaching certificate for Intermediate Mathematics! Outside of teaching, Emily enjoys baking with her sourdough starter, spending time with her friends and family, and exploring more of her backyard; the great state of Alaska!
