My tutoring will be customized to the individual needs of the student, whether it is Reading, Writing, Grammar, Core Literature Subjects, or any other specific area in the field of English. I primarily teach core academic literature, with a passion for exploring how stories are crafted and what they reveal. I strive to make complex literary theories accessible and engaging for young learners, guiding them through key questions like "What is literature?" and "What is the purpose of literary theory?" Using resources like The Norton Anthology of Theory and Criticism, I help students connect classical literature with ancient and contemporary theories such as feminism, postmodernism, narratology and rhetoric etc. My classes focus on understanding core themes without overwhelming students, encouraging them to confidently engage with complex ideas. With over six years of experience teaching English, Creative Writing, Drama, and Reading to students from elementary to high school, I specialize in adapting classical texts like Alice in Wonderland, Dr. Faustus, and Hamlet for younger audiences. I also designed curricula focused on Leadership and Literary Studies for high school students at a non-profit. I believe young learners have a unique ability to approach complex topics with fresh perspectives. My goal is to create a supportive space for open dialogue, helping students develop critical thinking, form their own interpretations, and engage deeply with literature. In an age of quick judgments and misinformation, I foster an environment where students can thoughtfully explore a wide range of ideas and thinkers, cultivating a richer understanding of literature and themselves. About me: Hello everyone! I'm Ailya, and I live in the US with my husband, daughter, and our cat. I hold a Master's in English Literature from Stockholm University, where I graduated with a high GPA and received an A on my thesis, focused on Possible Worlds Theory and The Third Policeman by Flann O'Brien.
