Youth Drum Pad Program 104

Live Group Course
The Youth Drum Pad Program builds rhythm reading and performance for ages 6-9 through a combination of guided instruction, practice, and creative exploration. Participants will develop their musical skills, coordination, and rhythm.

Assignments
1 hour per week. Practice with deliberate methods outside of our meeting times will support student mastery. Learners are encouraged to send a weekly video of their practice for teacher engagement and feedback.
Projects
Learners will develop a profile of a musician and catalog their skills through a portfolio. The final class is scheduled for a virtual recital.

- play patterns 8 measure or longer.
- read and/or play rhythms of quarter, eighth, sixteenth, 32nd.
- understand we count our rhythms in groups of 2 or 3
- am ready to participate in a class that is 40 minutes in length

SKILL DEVELOPMENT
- physical stamina of technical playing using the arm
- mental focus of counting and reading
- independent reading of standard music notation
- basic response to feedback for safe and accurate performing

COURSE EXPERIENCE
- Learners have the opportunity to work at their preferred speed. Patterns are broken down by 3 speeds.
- Participants perform on mute, until they want to share with the group/instructor.
- Conversation, free response, and open-ended questions are integral parts of the class experience over and above drumming.

MU:Cr1.1.3b  Generate amusical ideas (such as rhythms) within a given meter.  
MU:Cr2.1.4b  Use standard and/or iconic notation and/or recording technology to document personal rhythmic musical ideas.

Lesson 1:
Pattern Set 7.1
 Section 7 of Keith Bartlett. Learners will focus on the reading and writing of compound time signatures including the roll and other rudiments from the Bartlett book, PAC Rudiments sheet, and of original composition. Instructional and guidance focus.

Pattern Set 7.2
 Section 7 of Keith Bartlett. Learners will focus on the performance of a variety of exercises in compound time signatures including the roll and other rudiments from the Bartlett book, PAC Rudiments sheet, and of original composition. Performance practice focus.

 Section 8 of Keith Bartlett. Learners will focus on the reading and writing of flams and drags rudiments from the Bartlett book, PAC Rudiments sheet, and of original composition. Instructional and guidance focus.

Other Details

Pre-Requisites
Drum Pad Skills Level 3 Ages 6-9 or Send a maximum 1 minute video of your drumming skills to the teacher and we will recommend the best fit class.

1. Drum sticks

4. Printed or digital copy of the weeks' cadences for class discussion

For over a decade, I have provided music instruction for PreK through high school across all types of instruments and ensembles. My students have gone on to successful careers with many of them performing in music.
