US Grade 7 - 10
** Students will need to read through chapter 5 before class** This class is an intensive literature study. It is very in depth. This study is for any student with the desire to expand their knowledge of this book and literature in general. Each week learners will join us once per week. In the literature portion of this class learners will go over the following.. Character Character motivation Conflict Plot development Symbolism Theme Conflict resolution Context In the writing portion of this class students will write about the following.. Choices and consequences Friendship Perseverance Reviewing literature All writing assignments will be in the form of essays and reports. Students will be asked if they would like to share with the class. They do not have to if they don't desire to. We will offer teacher and student feedback. Students will work heavily with teacher as well as their peers while creating their writings. All of our writing and English studies will be heavily discussion based. Students will work on writing in and out of class. Students will go over their work for revisions with teacher and will complete a final draft. We are so excited to bring you this course! Here is a breakdown of the reading that will be done at home between meetings. Week 1- Chapters 1-5 Week 2- Chapters 6-10 Week 3- Chapters 11-15 Week 4- Chapters 16-20 Week 5- Chapters 21-25 Week 6- Chapters 26-30 Week 7-Chapters 31-35 Week 8- Chapters 36-40 Week 9- Chapters 41-45 Week 10- Chapters 46-50 These are the chapters that will be discussed in class and written about. Make sure you have read these chapters BEFORE class. You will read each chapter at home completing 5 chapters per week. You will complete all writing and study materials in class time.

This book contains violence. Parents should be well understood about this book before signing up. I have adjusted this age range to represent the content. If you sign up a younger learner PLEASE read about this book first.
Holes” has some rough language in parts and some of the violence will be too strong for young children. Dove rates the family curse elements of this film with a 2 under “Other” because some of the depictions could be construed as spell casting, or sorcery. But, it could also be dismissed as mere superstition.
