**** PARENTS PLEASE READ ** This book centers around perseverance and the importance of family. However discussions of the effects of racism may be had depending on student outlook. Please be sure you understand this book and are clear on its contents before signing up for this class. This class will only be taught by teachers who have personal experience with topics covered. ** You will need to read through chapter 2 before coming to the first meeting.** This class is an intensive literature study. It is very in depth. This study us for any student with the desire to expand their knowledge of this book and literature in general. In the literature portion of this class learners will go over the following. Character Character motivation Conflict Plot development Symbolism Theme Conflict resolution Context In the writing portion of this class students will write about the following.. Perseverance Hope Reviewing literature Importance of Family All writing assignments will be in the form of essays and reports. Students will be asked if they would like to share with the class. They do not have to if they don't desire to. We will offer teacher and student feedback. Students will work heavily with teacher as well as their peers while creating their writings. All of our writing and English studies will be heavily discussion based. Students will work on writing in and out of class. Students will go over their work for revisions with teacher and will complete a final draft. We are so excited to bring you this course! Here is a breakdown of the reading that will be done at home between meetings. Week 1- We will discuss Chapters 1-2 Week 2- We will discuss Chapters 3-4 Week 3- We will discuss Chapters 5-6 Week 4- We will discuss Chapters 7-8 Week 5- We will discuss Chapters 9-10 Week 6- We will discuss Chapters 11-12 Week 7- We will discuss Chapters 13-14 Week 8- We will discuss Chapters 15-16 Week 9- We will discuss Chapters 17-18 Week 10- We will discuss Chapters 19-20 You will read each chapter at home completing 2 chapters per week. You will complete all writing and study materials in class time. 1 hour per week will be spent together in class.
