Beginner - Intermediate Level
*This class meets the National Standards for Music Education* Discover 1. How do musicians make creative decisions? 2. How do musicians improve the quality of their creative work? 3. How do performers select repertoire? 4. When is a performance judged ready to present? How do context and the manner in which musical work is presented influence audience response? Expand your knowledge of percussion instruments to the pitched percussion section. This includes xylophones, marimbas, bells, glockenspiel, piano. You may bring 1 instrument or switch between instruments every week. The constant is the music and the elements. If you are switching between instruments, there is a greater dependency from the learner to engage and think through the transfer elements. Participants will study 3 pieces of personally selected music. This music is an additional cost to the course and we will study all 3 at the same time, drawing connections and transferring the knowledge and discussion of music elements of pitch, rhythm, and structure. We will draw themes upon the similarities and address technical differences based on the conversations brought to the table by the learner and their instrument. The selected musical repertoire will drive our conversation of the identification of musical elements: rhythm, pitch, structure. By the end of this course, learners will have the confidence to perform comfortably threading together transfer skills of music on keyboard instruments.
Learning Goals
