This class is a continuation of The Young Flute Player books. Students should have completed The Young Flute Player, Book 1 before moving to this class. The Young Flute Player, Book II, Part I Week 1 - Unit 1 - F Major/G Major scale; exercises with dynamics Week 2 - Unit 2 - New Note G-sharp; A minor harmonic and melodic scale with arpeggio; more dynamic practice; Bach Minuet Week 3 - Unit 3 - Slur/legato practice; The Ash Grove and Schumann Humming Song; musical puzzles Week 4 - Unit 4 -Low D, C-sharp; D Major scale; Handel March; D minor harmonic and melodic scales and arpeggio Week 5 - Unit 5 - The Gypsy Rover; interval exercises; Hava Nagila Week 6 - Unit 6 - Haydn Dance; Country Gardens; The Drover’s Dream; musical puzzle Week 7 - Unit 7 - Extended G Major scale; pieces in G Major; exercises and pieces with 16th notes Week 8 - Unit 8 - 6/8 time - exercises and pieces in 6/8 time Week 9 - Unit 9 - 6/8 time pieces - Greensleeves; Mendelssohn - On Wings of Song Week 10 - Unit 10 - New notes - high B-flat, high B-natural and high C; Lehar Vilia; tone study; The Happy Clown; musical puzzles Students will learn new concepts in playing: dynamics, minor and melodic minor scales, musical puzzles, extended scales, 6/8 time and new high notes - B-flat, B-natural, high C and D. There are also additional studies that can be used for extra practice; students also have materials they can use for recitals and music to play for others.
Learning Goals

I teach flute (class and private), piano (class and private), recorder, fife and harp.
I was the harp teacher for Hillsborough County Public Schools for twelve years.
I have also taught band, flute ensemble, church choir and general music.
