InformallyClass Experience
This class is designed for the beginning pianist or early intermediate student.. The teacher and student will decide on the method books to be used in the class - I suggest either the Bastien Piano Series, Faber or Alfred. Students will purchase three books - lesson, theory and performance and can elect to also work on supplemental pieces/books. The class is structured so that the teacher works through the books with the students and then the student practices the pieces between the lessons. My teaching style is based on a practice model - what we do in the class should be incorporated in the student's practice period. Students will interact with me by discussing the pieces and sometimes working on the whiteboard to emphasize a particular point. My goal is that the student works through the books and progresses to the next level. This class has stated objectives but each student can work at his or her own pace. Students may elect to do another section of this class to finish the book. I want students to learn the basics of note reading, rhythms and reading in positions given the method book the student is working in.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the basics of note reading, rhythms, fingering, dynamics and interpretation.
