Class Experience

US Grade 5
***This class runs in the summer. ***

In this class, students will review math concepts they were taught in fourth grade. In each class there will be a brief review, then we will practice problems together. After, students will be asked to do problems independently.

Topics taught throughout this course will include fractions, multiplication, division, decimals, measurements, conversions, area, and angles. I will be looking at students' work during class to see how comfortable students are with topics. I will spend more time on topics that students are having difficulty with. This class is designed to be very flexible to meet all the needs of students in the classroom. I want every student to succeed.

Each class section covers the same material. The amount of time spent on each section depends on the student's needs. Look at the schedule below to see where each class is.

Supply List
Students should bring paper or a whiteboard to class to show work. I will be asking students to hold up their work. Please have students practice holding up their work to the camera prior to class to make sure that I will be able to see it.

For the class on angles, please have your child bring a half-circle protractor. These can be bought or printed out.

For measurement, students will need a calculator. This allows us to focus on the process of converting.

Hello! I am Sara Howell. I live in a small town in Pennsylvania. I am PK through sixth-grade general education teacher and PK- 12 grade special education. I graduated from Millersville University with a degree in both early childhood education and special education. I have worked in infant through eighth-grade general education and special education classrooms. I have taught over 5,000 ESL and reading classes online. This fall will be my seventh year teaching online. I love teaching ONLINE!

I like to create classes that engage and support all learners. I use informal and formal assessments to see what a student needs to succeed. I want to not only teach students content but help them develop a lifelong desire for learning. One of my strengths as a teacher is breaking down the content for students in an easy and understandable way. I try to make sure that students have mastered basic skills before we move on to the harder concepts. My classes are designed to move at the pace the students in the classroom need.

In my free time, I love to spend time with family and friends.

Feel free to contact me about how I can support your child in the classroom.

Please note that Outschool is my job, so I have a limited refund policy on my classes. I spend time preparing for the class. Outschool states that teachers may wait 10 minutes in the class, then cancel it if there is no student present. Please message me right away if you are having trouble.
