Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 5
This interactive club is targeted for third, fourth, and fifth grade learners who need enrichment in the area of math. I believe that the joy of learning comes when children have the opportunity to discover new understandings as they experience unique challenges in a safe, nurturing environment. In this course, learners will be presented with a new "math mystery" each week. Learners will have an opportunity to problem solve individually and work together as a small group before the final solution to each puzzle is revealed. My goal is that each learner have a clear understanding of the "why" behind each solution and that they leave the class better equipped, both as a mathematical thinker and as a problem solver in general. Learners will have the opportunity to apply traditional math skills while also developing higher level thinking skills such as deductive reasoning, logic, collaborative problem solving, fluency, and flexible thinking. These skills will help learners excel, not only in all areas of the curriculum, but in life!
