US Grade 5
Have you ever seen the Facebook posts that ask for the answer to a complicated math problem, and adults are arguing over what the correct answer is? Most of learned about PEMDAS (or BEDMAS) in school, but many of us are still confused about the order of operations. Learning the Order of Operations is a vital step in math education because it helps students solve equations throughout the rest of their educational careers (and beyond). Mastering these steps will give your student confidence as they prepare for and move into algebra and more advanced mathematics. In this class, we will learn the Order of Operations without the use of exponents. This class is perfect for late elementary schoolers (fourth to fifth grade) who have not learned how to use exponents yet. Your learner does not need to have learned the Order of Operations yet; in this class we will approach these steps completely fresh and practice towards mastery. Students will be introduced to the Order of Operations and practice the steps with support. Afterwards, students will be challenged to use the Order of Operations for an escape room game. I teach via Google Slides and provide students with opportunities to answer with support and independently. I incorporate games into my classroom to make learning fun. Invite your friends! This class is ideal with two or more learners. If only one learner is enrolled, I may present you with the options to: 1) Continue with one learner 2) Transfer to a different section with other learners 3) Refund the class

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree from University of Alabama at Birmingham
I'm an accountant with a teaching background who enjoys learning and strives to foster a love of learning in students through games and interactive learning. I believe students learn best when they are having fun and interacting with the material.
I have always had a passion for learning and have diverse interests. I'm especially passionate about building strong foundations in language and math. I believe confidence in these two areas will give students the tools to learn almost anything they'd like to in life.
As an accountant, I have expertise in mathematics and finance. I'm an Enrolled Agent and believe everyone should be proficient in budgeting and personal finance. I believe a strong foundation in math is important to develop advanced skills with numbers later in life. Likewise, strong grammar and language skills will help students communicate effectively and give them the tools to learn anything they'd like to. I'm also passionate about culture and language and have formally studied nine languages, including studying abroad. I want to share the world with students through language and exploration.
I hope to share my love of learning with each of my students as they explore their personal interests. In doing so, students will become lifelong learners and continue to grow in and out of the classroom.
