In this class, students will meet weekly to learn and practice core math concepts for 3rd Grade. Over the course of the school year, we will cover all of the math standards for 3rd Grade, including: -multi-digit addition and subtraction using expanded and carrying methods -word problems -multiplication and division of single digit numbers -multiplication & division fact families -place value -recognizing fractions -comparing fractions -measurements of volume (customary system) -measurements of length (customary system) -telling time -elapsed time -area -perimeter -identifying shapes by their qualities Students will have multiple opportunities to practice these skills. Each class stands alone and does not require previous knowledge. Students will also have the opportunity to practice listening and taking turns. Each class will end with a few minutes for socializing. In this class, students are not required to mute themselves (unless their background noise is very distracting). I teach via Google Slides and incorporate games into my classes to make math fun. 2024-2025 Schedule Semester 1 Week of Sept 2 Place Value Week of Sept 9 Expanded Notation Week of Sept 16 Rounding & Estimating Week of Sept 23 No Class (Fall Break) Week of Sept 30 Adding & Subtracing Money (US Currency) Week of Oct 7 Reading a Clock to the Minute Week of Oct 14 Elapsed Time Week of Oct 21 Missing Numbers in Addition Week of Oct 28 Missing Numbers in Subtraction Week of Nov 4 Addition with Expanded Form Week of Nov 11 Addition with Regrouping Week of Nov 18 Subtracting with Expanded Form Week of Nov 25 Subtraction with Regrouping Week of Dec 2 Introduction to Multiplication with Arrays Week of Dec 9 Multiplication by 0, 1, 5, and 10 (Blooket Game Day) Week of Dec 16 Multiplication by 2, 4, 6 (Blooket Game Day) Week of Dec 23 Multiplication by 7, 8, 9 (Blooket Game Day) Week of Dec 30 No Class (Holiday) Semester 2 Week of Jan 6 Interpreting Graphs Week of Jan 13 Introduction to Division Week of Jan 20 Parentheses in Equations Week of Jan 27 Measurement (Customary System) Week of Feb 3 Types of Lines Week of Feb 10 Multiplying by Larger Numbers Ending in 0 Week of Feb 17 Estimating Products Week of Feb 24 Multiplying Single-Digit Numbers with Double-Digit Numbers Week of March 3 Geometry Vocabulary Week of March 10 Angles Week of March 17 Perimeter Week of March 24 Area of Rectangles Basics Week of March 31 Area of Rectilinear Shapes Week of April 7 Coordinate Plane Week of April 14 Symmetry Week of April 21 Multiplication Using the Distributive Method Week of April 28 Multiplication Using Box Method Week of May 5 Introduction to Fractions Week of May 12 Adding & Subtracting Fractions with Like Denominators Week of May 19 Venn Diagrams Week of May 26 Introduction to Simple Long Division

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree from University of Alabama at Birmingham
I'm an accountant with a teaching background who enjoys learning and strives to foster a love of learning in students through games and interactive learning. I believe students learn best when they are having fun and interacting with the material.
I have always had a passion for learning and have diverse interests. I'm especially passionate about building strong foundations in language and math. I believe confidence in these two areas will give students the tools to learn almost anything they'd like to in life.
As an accountant, I have expertise in mathematics and finance. I'm an Enrolled Agent and believe everyone should be proficient in budgeting and personal finance. I believe a strong foundation in math is important to develop advanced skills with numbers later in life. Likewise, strong grammar and language skills will help students communicate effectively and give them the tools to learn anything they'd like to. I'm also passionate about culture and language and have formally studied nine languages, including studying abroad. I want to share the world with students through language and exploration.
I hope to share my love of learning with each of my students as they explore their personal interests. In doing so, students will become lifelong learners and continue to grow in and out of the classroom.
