US Grade 6
In this class, students will meet weekly to learn and practice core math concepts for 6th Grade. Please note, since this class meets just once a week, it is intended to supplement additional math instruction. Over the course of the school year, we will cover the common core math standards for 6th Grade, including: -fractions and mixed numbers -decimals -word problems -variables -algebraic equations -probability -percentage -ratio -rate -proportions -area -volume -circumference Students will have multiple opportunities to practice these skills. Each class stands alone and does not require prior attendance. In this class, students are not required to mute themselves (unless their background noise is very distracting). I teach via Google Slides and incorporate interactive activities and games into my classes to make math fun. Please note: The following schedule is subject to slight adjustments at my discretion. 2024-2025 Schedule Semester 1 Week of Sept 2 Equivalent & Reducing Fractions Review Week of Sept 9 Multiplying & Dividing Fractions Review Week of Sept 16 Multiplying & Dividing Decimals Week of Sept 23 No Class (Fall Break) Week of Sept 30 Categorization of Numbers Week of Oct 7 Adding & Subtracting Integers Week of Oct 14 Multiplying & Dividing Integers Week of Oct 21 Powers & Exponents Week of Oct 28 Multiplying & Dividing Exponents Week of Nov 4 Scientific Notation Week of Nov 11 Order of Operations with Exponents, Fractions, and Decimals Week of Nov 18 Prime Factorization Week of Nov 25 Greatest Common Factor (GCF) and Least Common Multiple (LCM) Week of Dec 2 Introduction to Variables Week of Dec 9 Input-Output Tables Week of Dec 16 Percentage Week of Dec 23 No Class (Holiday) Week of Dec 30 Converting Between Percents, Fractions, and Decimals Semester 2 Week of Jan 6 Probability Week of Jan 13 Independent & Dependent Events Week of Jan 20 Ratio Week of Jan 27 Unit Rates Week of Feb 3 Proportions Week of Feb 10 Area of Rectilinear Shapes & Traingles Week of Feb 17 Area of Parallellograms & Trapezoids Week of Feb 24 Volume Week of March 3 Circumference & Area of a Circle Week of March 10 Surface Area Week of March 17 Volume & Surface Area of a Cylinder Week of March 24 Stem & Leaf Plots, Dot Plots, and Histograms Week of March 31 Whisker & Leaf Plots & Measures of Central Tendency Week of April 7 Mean Absolute Deviation (MAD) and Interquartile Range (IQR) Week of April 14 Algebraic Expressions Week of April 21 Evaluating Algebraic Expressions Week of April 28 Combining Like Terms Week of May 5 Introduction to Equations Week of May 12 Introduction to Inequalities Week of May 19 Percent Applications: Sales Tax & Discounts Week of May 26 Percent Applications: Simple Interest

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree from University of Alabama at Birmingham
I'm an accountant with a teaching background who enjoys learning and strives to foster a love of learning in students through games and interactive learning. I believe students learn best when they are having fun and interacting with the material.
I have always had a passion for learning and have diverse interests. I'm especially passionate about building strong foundations in language and math. I believe confidence in these two areas will give students the tools to learn almost anything they'd like to in life.
As an accountant, I have expertise in mathematics and finance. I'm an Enrolled Agent and believe everyone should be proficient in budgeting and personal finance. I believe a strong foundation in math is important to develop advanced skills with numbers later in life. Likewise, strong grammar and language skills will help students communicate effectively and give them the tools to learn anything they'd like to. I'm also passionate about culture and language and have formally studied nine languages, including studying abroad. I want to share the world with students through language and exploration.
I hope to share my love of learning with each of my students as they explore their personal interests. In doing so, students will become lifelong learners and continue to grow in and out of the classroom.
