Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 7
Let's learn about famous women authors from history. We will learn about authors ranging from the 1800's until modern day. We will also talk about some authors who are still popular today.

There are many famous female writers and it is impossible to talk about all of them in one class. There are many more female authors that we could talk about in future classes, if there is interest.

For this class, I have selected some of the most famous and influential women authors from history. I've tried to pick a diverse sample of women from many different backgrounds and from different time periods. If you have any suggestions for women that you think should be added to this course, please feel free to reach out to me.

During this class, we will talk about each woman author for about 5-10 minutes. I like to promote discussion and encourage students to ask questions, so we may spend more time discussing certain authors than others based on student interest.

After class, you will receive a copy of the Canva presentation slides from this class, so your child can spend more time learning about each other depending on your child's level of interest in each author.

This class will be taught with Canva presentation slides, images, video clips, lectures, and discussion.

10 Famous Women Authors We Will Discuss
1. Jane Austen
2. Frances Hodgson Burnett
3. Harriet Beecher Stowe
4. Mary Shelley
5. Maya Angelou
6. Louisa May Alcott
7. Agatha Christie
8. Amy Tan
9. Judy Blume
10. JK Rowling

We will discuss the most famous works of each other, the background of each author, the challenges they faced, and what each other was able to accomplish with their work.

This class will focus on the accomplishments of women and how women authors overcame obstacles. Sexism and issues that women faced in history will be mentioned. Some of the women also faced racism and religious persecution. This may be upsetting for some students.
