Although this class builds on skills learned in Session 1, there is no prerequisite for this class. All are welcome. This 8 week elementary art class gives students the opportunity to explore art making techniques while learning a bit about art history and connecting learning in other subject areas. Each week we will focus on an art element of art and creative technique. Every session will build upon the knowledge of the elements of art and media skills throughout the year. Each week will feature a different piece of inspiration artwork or artist. Although some bits of information may repeat, art projects, inspiration works and creative engagement activities will not. Techniques and media covered in this class will include collage, painting, mixed media engagements, printmaking, sculpture and clay. Students will learn about both modern and historical art and artists from around the world. Each class will start by introducing our inspiration art and artists along with the technique. Students will be guided through creating a piece of art based on our inspiration art piece however each student's work will remain uniquely individual. Ms. Stephanie uses are variety topics including nature, animals, portraiture, land and seascapes, still life, street art and more to keep kids interested and challenged with techniques that can be made more or less challenging based on individual learners ages and current ability levels. Week 1 will focus on the element of line through the lens of landscape art Week 2 will focus on the element of shapes by looking at cityscapes Week 3 & 4 will focus on the element of color in collage art Week 5 will focus on value in still life art Week 6 will combine the elements of pattern in a fun self portrait Week 7 will focus on form by looking at and creating a sculpture Week 8 will focus on creating texture with a mixed media artwork

Supply List
Each week a specific list of supplies will be uploaded by Sunday evening for the upcoming lesson. Below is a list of general art supplies you can expect to be used and should try to have on hand. Please note, Stephanie is highly proficient in creating alternative options for kids who do not have access to the supplies listed. watercolor or mixed media paper copy paper brightly colored construction paper glue stick (I highly recommend UHU glue sticks) scissors black paper colored tissue paper white glue washable markers permanent black marker crayons / oil pastels chalk / chalk pastels paint brushes, foam brushes, daubers in a variety of sizes watercolor paint washable tempera or acrylic craft paint (please not acrylic is difficult at best to wash out of clothing) in a range of colors including black and white

Stephanie is a k-12 certified art educator and arts in healthcare profession who has been teaching children and working with dementia care residents for over 20 years. Creating fun, engaging art experiences that are age appropriate and confidence building is her specialty, she'll use these skills to make art the most exciting and fun class of the week!
