This one time painting class will focus on the rich history, symbolism and uses of sunflowers. Today the sunflower is seen around the world as a symbol of solidarity, resilience and strength. We will explore the characteristics of sunflowers, where sunflowers grow, the varieties of sunflowers and sunflowers in art history. As class starts, we'll take a few minutes to check in with each other, and create a couple of group agreements that will keep our time together well focused and respectful of all. Then,, we'll look at several images of sunflowers in art and in photographs, learning, chatting and understanding more about sunflowers. After, we'll turn our attention to creating. Each time I run this class I hope to make it unique. Sometimes we'll create a vase of sunflowers, sometimes sunflowers on a table, others a single, tall, strong sunflower. I'll walk students through the how-to steps, show them different way of using our supplies and will work along side of them, however I always encourage and give learners the freedom to create their own art their way. At the end fo class everyone is invited to share their artwork if they are comfortable doing so. My hope is that by. the end of this relaxing paint session, students will have a greater appreciation for the sunflower and it's significance in our world today.
