Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 4
In this class, students will be introduced to four different top-priority reading comprehension skills. What are top priority standards? Top priority standards are those academic skills that have been professionally identified as essential skills needed to progress in each grade or content area, accordingly.

Over the four days, we will read through two non-fiction texts and two fiction texts. Then, we will practice the comprehension skill of the day as I model and guide students with strategies, skills, and clues to help them comprehend the text for each skill. The top-priority skills we will be focusing on in this four-day class are inquiry-based questioning, main idea, summarizing, and making inferences. Students will receive a document that I post in the classroom for each day that will match and support them in the class for each comprehension skill. Please see the literacy schedule below for each day.

Day 1: Inquiry-Based Questioning with Nonfiction Text
Day 2: Making Inferences and Draw Conclusions with Fiction Text
Day 3: Main Idea and Supporting Details with Nonfiction Text
Day 4: Summarize with Fiction Text
