Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 5
In my seventeen years of teaching elementary math, I am very familiar with the priority math standards of fourth and fifth grade as well as the progression needed to enter the grades to follow. I have participated in many hours of professional development for many different research-based math strategies which makes me prepared to help students where they are academically with the strategy they are learning. I am intentionally keeping this class small so that I can give the attention that is needed to guide and support the students through these priority math skills. This class offers the top priority math skills including multi-digit multiplication, division, equivalent fractions, adding and subtracting fractions, as well as decimals. Students and parents can keep in contact with me through the classroom if they have questions. I also offer one-on-one tutoring sessions as an option for struggling students or enrichment lessons as well.

CLASS AGENDA
-Teachers models the strategy of the lesson with a sample problem or task.
-Teacher presents another problem with students’ coaching (they coach me to solve the problem).
-Students choose to try another task WITH me OR independently
-Students can utilize chat to send me their answers as I will give immediate feedback.
-Practice tasks and guidance are provided for the remaining class time.

HOW the class is MANAGED:
After the lesson, students will choose either to work alone on a task or with the teacher to complete each task and we will share our results. I will ask MANY questions to guide students to the correct strategies to solve the task. Students will need a whiteboard to show your work so I can better understand your math thinking.

Each week is a stand-alone class and is not a pre-requisite to taking the other class. The learner can join in any week and quickly be able to participate without prior classes needed. Here are the lesson topics for the weeks to come. I will update this monthly.
