Writing Prompts- All Genres (Expository, Opinion, Persuasive, Narrative)
This ongoing class teaches the criteria needed for various writing genres all while answering to a prompt. The prompts change each week including genres such as expository, opinion, persuasive, and narrative criteria. This skill sets students up for success with test preparation and supports students with essay writing. You can drop in for one class or stay for continued lessons each week.

In this class we learn to narrow down the purpose and intent that the prompt is asking us to complete. In addition, we discuss other important criteria that makes their response to the prompt stronger with supporting details and evidence as well as organized with an introductory and conclusion statement. Within the class, we focus on the writing genre for the week so that students are familiar with the expectations for each genre since each has various criteria to meet writing expectations. Below are a just a few of the many different prompts we will analyze and answer to. CLASS OUTLINE -Meet and greet -Review the prompt and identify the genre type -Discuss criteria needed for the prompt and genre -Brainstorm thoughts with class -Learners begin to draft their ideas -Teacher provides ongoing feedback for learners that share out their writing ideas -Share out final thoughts and ideas -Students are encouraged to complete their writing after class with feedback provided from class WEEKLY GENRE AGENDA Week of October 2: Opinion prompt response Week of October 9: Descriptive prompt response Week of October 16: Persuasive prompt response Week of October 23: Write a Letter with a given prompt Week of October 30 : NO CLASS: Week of November 6: Narrative prompt response Week of November 13: Informative (pick a topic to inform based on prompt) Week of November 20 Creative Writing Prompt Week of November 27: Expository prompt response Week of December 6: Comparative prompt response **I will update the class lessons each month** I respond promptly to messages so please feel free to message me with any questions you may have.

Students will need copies of the documents that are posted in the classroom prior to class. If that is not possible, please be sure to bring paper and pencil to write with. Thanks
